Performs and participates in construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of underground and overhead electrical distribution and transmission lines; sets poles, strings wire, and hangs or installs transformers, lightning arresters, cutouts, cross arms, and insulators; installs and connects meter reading equipment, switches, and related components; periodically serves on call in emergencies; diagnoses and makes repairs in building electrical systems; participates in survey work as necessary to establish pole locations; drives and operates a line truck with various types of equipment attachments, such as hydraulic derrick and pole hole auger; operates underground locating and fault finding equipment; works with underground construction and maintenance crews in pulling wires, setting transformers, building and maintaining substations and related activities; installs and repairs residential and commercial service lines and facilities; handles and inspects for PCBs; replaces burned out street lights, starters, and photo electric cells; trims trees; attends safety meetings and follows safe practices; corrects power failures; inspects vehicles and equipment and performs minor maintenance; keeps work and line records; responds to after hours calls for service as available.
