MUSEUM TECHNICIAN – BAY AREA DISTRICT / SONOMA STATE HISTORIC PARK-BARRACKS
The primary reporting location is the Sonoma Barracks, Sonoma Curation Facility, 98 East Spain St, Sonoma, CA 95476, a unit of Sonoma State Historic Park in Sonoma. Under direction of the Museum Curator II, this position will perform tasks in Sonoma State Historic Park, including but not limited to tasks at the Sonoma Mission, Sonoma Barracks, General Vallejo's Home and Toscano Hotel and Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park, and may include museum collections tasks at Benicia Capitol State Historic Park and Jack London State Historic Park. The Museum Technician may also be called upon to assist Curatorial staff as needed at other Park units in the Bay Area District.The Museum Technician must be self-directed, be able to work alone and work with others, be able to train and lead park staff and volunteers in the proper handling of museum collections handling and be welcoming and friendly to Park visitors providing information as necessary to help them enjoy their park visit.
Training and development assignments may be considered. This position is designated as Telework Eligible - Office Centered.The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Park museum collections, exhibited and stored in historic structures, require cleaning to be performed on a regular basis by park museum staff. Conditions are dusty and dirty, especially so in the adobe structures. Depending on the season, interior spaces can be cold or hot. Integrated Pest Management will be the responsibility of the Museum Technician. Proper personal protection must be used while performing tasks in locations where rodents may be present.
